The Non-Vocational Assessment Programme has been introduced following extensive discussions with teachers.

We understand that as dancers approach the higher ballet levels, their academic commitments may impact on their ability to attend the necessary number of classes per week to achieve the standard required by an examination syllabus. Therefore, this program is an alternative. It allows the student to continue their ballet training without the rigours of a set syllabus, giving them continuity, progression, and the opportunity to partake of a yearly assessment.

The program contains three levels and is aimed at students who have already achieved Grade 6 level of competency of the Borovansky syllabus or equivalent in a recognised ballet syllabus. This is not a program for children or beginner dancers.

The Non-Vocational Programme currently has three levels and the list of steps has been compiled as a guideline to assist teachers in constructing classes for the non-vocational student. Teachers establish their own choreography based on the guidelines provided and use their own choice of music. Once taught, steps and movements in each level, should continue to be used and practised at all levels and the degree of proficiency of execution should improve accordingly.

To implement this program, you must be an accredited AICD teacher; either Associate, Licentiate or Fellow.

The AICD continually monitors all of its syllabus and assessment programmes and may add more levels to this program if the need arises.

Assessments

AICD accredited Teachers should have their non-vocational students assessed concurrently with their Borovansky examinations (as per the guidelines within the documentation).
